With the growing demand for organic planting, there are various organic granular fertilizer products on the market with uneven quality. Many growers choose products only based on price or appearance and often fall into traps. Mastering the following identification points can help you quickly screen out truly high-quality products.
First, check the appearance and smell. High-quality organic granular fertilizer has uniform particles, moderate hardness, a smooth surface without obvious powder, and slight elasticity when falling to the ground. It has a faint earthy or fermented aroma after decomposition, without pungent ammonia smell, foul smell, or obvious chemical raw material odor. If the particles crumble easily when pinched, contain a lot of dust, or emit sour and rotten odors, it is usually a sign of incomplete decomposition or inferior raw materials.
Second, check the core indicators and raw material sources. Formal products will clearly mark the organic matter content, total nutrients, moisture and pH value. The national standard requires organic fertilizer to have ≥45% organic matter and ≥5% total nutrients. Give priority to products made from pure plant-based raw materials or harmlessly treated livestock manure, and avoid low-price fertilizers with vague labels and unknown raw material sources. Fully decomposed fertilizer will not undergo secondary fermentation to burn roots after being applied to the soil, nor will it bring in insect eggs and miscellaneous bacteria.
Finally, be wary of the "quick-acting and all-purpose" misunderstanding. The core advantage of organic granular fertilizer is long-term soil improvement, not immediate seedling boosting effect. If it claims to take effect within three to five days after application, it is often added with a large amount of hidden chemical fertilizers, which will still damage the soil with long-term use. Real high-quality organic granular fertilizer has mild fertilizer efficiency in the early stage and sufficient lasting effect. After two to three seasons of continuous use, soil fertility and crop quality will show steady improvement visible to the naked eye.
